NEIU Fine Arts Center Gallery Announces
Habitual Ritual
Habitual Ritual is a print portfolio with a focus on artists that follow working methodologies rooted in repetition. Beyond the historical precepts of print as multiple, the artists in this portfolio choose to work in a mode that borders on the obsessive and involves a sequence of actions which would seem arduous and monotonous to most, but remain gratifying and essential to each artist. The premise of repetition appears through physical, tactile, process-based practices for some artists and for others operates as the element imperative to the content of the work, employing recurrence and reappearance to relay concepts via repeated vernacular, marks, forms, patterns, or colors. Exhibiting artists include Kim Ambriz, Diana Behl, Maggie Booth, Joe D'Uva, Amze Emmons, John Hitchcock, Amanda Knowles, Rose Lazar and Robert A.A. Lowe, Kristen Martincic, Nichole Maury, Jason Moore, Debora Oden, Fernando Orellana, Heather Page, Justin Quinn, Danielle Rante, Jay Ryan, and Sarah Smelser.
Kim Ambriz, Lydia Diemer, and Heather Page will be discussing their work in the gallery on Tuesday November 18th from 2-3pm. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday November 21st from 6-9pm. All events are free and open to the public.
